The origin of Valentine’s Day

There are two theories regarding how this special day began. One theory suggests that the day comes from Luperalia which is a wild Roman festival held on Feb. 15th. During this day, men strip down and spanked women for fertility. The other theory is that Roman Emperor Claudius II executed St. Valentine for defiling the leader’s ban on marriages by conducting some in secret. He was executed on the 14th.
