2 Honolulu Officers Dead, 7 Homes Burned After Shooting Incident

2 officers killedTwo police officers were killed by a man on a shooting encounter. This happened on Sunday near Diamond Head, one of Hawaii’s premier locations. It was also reported that some properties were destroyed because of a fire that is also caused by the suspect.

 

The police respondents have received reports about a stabbing incident in Waikiki. A woman was said to be stabbed by a man, and as the police responded to the crisis, the shootout unfolded.

 

The suspect who is speculated to be using a rifle, yet still unidentified was found dead after the shootout. The two police veteran responders were killed despite wearing bullet protection vests. It was reported that the bullets hit above their vests which caused their deaths.

 

The officials confirmed the name of the officers who died on the shoot-out, Tiffany Enriquez and Kaulike Kalama.

 

David Ige, Hawaii’s Governor showed his sympathy towards the officers killed and their families through a tweet. “Our entire state mourns the loss of two Honolulu Police officers killed in the line of duty this morning. As we express our condolences to their families, friends, and colleagues, let us also come together to help and support those who have been forever changed by this tragedy.”, the Governor tweeted.

 

Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell also voiced out his empathy to the victims and their family through a Facebook post, showing his deepest condolences and saying that the incident is unprecedented and highly unlikely.

 

Representative Tulsi Gabbard also expressed his feelings about the incident through a twitter post. “While we all mourn the heartbreaking loss of two of Honolulu’s finest, their fellow first responders are still out there. Our prayers are with the families of the officers we lost, and with first responders still working to keep our communities safe.”

 

According to a news source, it was confirmed that the FBI has sent agents to do some investigation about the case. Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) have also confirmed through twitter that they have deployed agents as well to help investigate with the case.

 

A video that circulated around twitter has also garnered traction. The video showed a lot of cars, ambulances, and more vehicles which swarmed the entirety of Kapiolani Park. The video also showed the destruction of houses because of fires and the smoke they emitted which is highly visible.

 

In 2019, two months before this current shooting incident, another one has also occurred, with a 22-year old sailor suspect who killed 2 civilians and afterward, committing suicide by shooting himself.
