Golf has gained much interest from people around the world. This has also become one of the well-loved sport. Just recently Phil Michelson played the South Course in Sand Diego. He is noted for his swashbuckling style but in that particular game, he chose to play it safe.

The word golf was borrowed from the Middle Dutch as a revision of the word colf or colve. Golf is played using golf balls and clubs for teeing off and driving the balls into the hole. It is played with the fewest number of strokes called a stroke play. Golf does not have uniform playing area. The courses consist of nine or 18 holes. The history of golf dates from the year 1457 to 1973 from Asian to European countries.

Golf is popular around the world. Some of the countries where the game is played a lot include the United States, Germany, United Kingdom, India, Canada, China, Australia, France, Italy, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Philippines, Mexico and Poland.

There are lots of interesting facts about golf. The world’s longest golf course is found in Massachusetts. This is the International Golf Club and has a total length of 8, 325 yards. The highest golf course is in Morococha Peru – the Tactu Golf Club with a total elevation of 14,335 feet above sea level. In Asia, the 7th hole in Satsuki Golf Club in Japan is known as the longest hole in the world. And lastly, the world’s largest bunker, Hell’s Half Acre, is 85-yard 7th hole of the Pine Valley Course in New Jersey.

Tiger Woods and Phil Michelson had chance on the longest championships course ever and had 15th major toughest game in the entire tournament. The top players of this sport that had made a name are Lee Westwood, Martin Kymer, Tiger Woods, Graeme McDowell, Steve Stricker, Phil Mickelson, Rory McElroy, Jim Furyk, Paul Casey and Luke Donald.
