A huge part of the world is currently at war with the highly infectious and fatal Covid-19. While the battle with this unseen foe is yet to be won, there’s already worries about a new virus that’s alarming people online. Will this new disease bring chaos and havoc across the world, or are people just panicking over minor issues?
The virus we are talking about is the hantavirus. Another virus that originates from China and people are speculating that this could be our next foe. Of course, it’s best to come prepared rather than to come scared so we are here to inform you about this new disease.
What is the so-called Hantavirus?
Hantaviruses are a group of viruses that are found in some rodents. In rare cases, this strain of virus can cause a deadly disease called hantavirus pulmonary syndrome which is HPS for short.
Transmission methods
How you can get the hantavirus is similar to how you can get leptospirosis, you can get hantavirus when you come into contact with rodent urine and droppings. The only difference is that you’ll have to avoid urine and droppings particles in the air. As such, it’s always important to have your rat infestation cleaned professionally.
Symptoms
The first symptoms for hantavirus are fever, fatigue, and muscle aches. As this is an attack on the respiratory system as well, most of the symptoms are similar to that of the coronavirus.
Cure
The truth is that there is no cure for the hantavirus yet. However, patients who are diagnosed early can go to a hospital for intensive care so that they can avoid fatality. Like the coronavirus, it’s important to act fast when it comes to the hantavirus.
Current situation
While there are some cases of the hantavirus across China currently, experts are not worried about the disease yet. That’s because it’s not as infectious as our current foe. Still, there are steps being taken to avoid the further spreading of the disease. Even if there is an outbreak, there’s already an immediate solution to it such as rodent control.
The hantavirus may be lurking around the corner but that doesn’t mean it’s something you should panic about now. Your current worries should be focused on the coronavirus as it is a far deadlier and more contagious disease. Still, it’s best to be prepared so you should at least inspect your house for rodent problems for now.
