San Francisco is the fourth most populated city found in the coast of California about 400 miles north of Los Angeles. The city is known for its fascinating views, steep hills, and mountains around the beautiful San Francisco Bay.

Among the major cities of California, San Francisco experiences the Mediterranean climate. Mark Twain made a humorous remark about the city: “The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco”. It’s true to the fact that San Francisco’s climate is characterized by chilly summer unlike other cities with moist, chilling winters and dry summers. That’s because the cool currents of the Pacific Ocean influences the weather of San Francisco. During summer, the entire California experiences increasingly hot winds which create a low pressure area that drives the winds from the North Pacific High via San Francisco Golden Gate which brings cool winds and fogs to the entire city.

Tourist destinations in San Francisco

1.       Alcatraz Island. A historic site of San Francisco, and one of the city’s pride, known as the “Rock” for several decades for its tight, high-security prison for inmates’ which is almost impossible to escape from. It is located some distance from the mainland.

Tourists are allowed to visit the abandoned prison. Reservation at least a day ahead is a must because this trip usually fills up real quick. This isolated, cold, forbidden island captures one’s attention because of its magnificent view and historic value. Escape attempts were made during its operation and dozens of inmates met their doom in this highly secured fortress.

2.       San Francisco Cable Cars. Another endearing pride of San Francisco where you can see a spectacular view of the city while moving up and down to the steep hills of the city. It was successfully built for preparation and safety of the passengers for rainy and slippery seasons. It is one of the iconic modes of transportation in the city. Hopping and jumping on a moving cable car is strictly not allowed.

3.       Golden Gate Bridge. The world-famous tourist attraction in San Francisco situated in Lincoln Avenue San Francisco. This bridge was built 1,300 meters above water, equivalent to 60 stories high. There are some places in the bridge where you can see the panoramic beauty of the entire bay. Although there are other new bridges built around the unsurpassed beauty of San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge is unparalleled.

4.       Fisherman’s Wharf. If you are a fashion enthusiast or food-lover, Fisherman’s Wharf is the perfect place for you. It is considered a real landmark of the city and the number one tourist destination inside the city considering the number of shops, cafes, seafood restaurants, arcades, gala rides, and spectacular ocean views.

5.       Muir Woods. The giant redwoods located at the north across the Golden Gate Bridge where the biggest and the tallest red woods of the world are found. Visitors are welcome to visit and see the breathtaking views of small Sausalito village as well as those galleries, shopping malls and restaurants.

6.       San Francisco City Hall. This building was planned and designed by the two prominent French architect for almost hundred years past. Like the other city halls, a lot of momentous histories took place in this building. It is the place where Marilyn Monroe and her husband got married in the 1954. Another interesting fact is that, in the later years, many lesbians and gays couples were married in this place.
