Update on NSW Bushfires: New South Wales wildfires continue to get worse with forecast of temperatures in the mid to high 30s, strong winds between 80-100 km/h and very low humidity. Across the state, a total of 63 fires are still burning with 13 of them uncontained.
”This will be as bad as it gets,” Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said. ”On days like [this], there’s a very real potential for more loss of homes and life.”
Preparations are ongoing with the largest fire fighting force in the state’s history ready to battle the expected catastrophic conditions. In the Greater Sydney region, a total fire ban is in force until further notice.
The Blue Mountains region is the most impacted area with the major bushfires still active and out of control. According to authorities, tens of thousands of homes are at risk in the Blue Mountains region because of their distance to the bushland.
