The special 60th Anniversary celebration of the Miss universe Organization was held at Credicard Hall, Sao Paulo Brazil on September 12, 2011 where Miss Angola paved her way to the top.

Miss Universe 2010  Ximena Navarette of Mexico had finished her reign yesterday and  gave her crown to the new 2011 Miss Universe Leila Lopes of Angola.

There were 80 candidates around the world who participated this year.  The final glance of the online voting showed Miss Philippines on top with 7.5 percent followed by Miss Angola with 7.0 percent of votes. However, after proving her worth to the crown, Miss Angola finally made her way to the top.

Here is the list of winners from recently concluded 2011 Miss Universe beauty pageant:

  • Miss China Luo Zilin –  4th runner up
  • Miss Philippines Shamsey Supsup – 3rd runner up
  • Miss Brazil Priscila Machado – 2nd runner up
  • Miss Ukraine Olesya Stefanko – 1st runner up
  • Miss Angola Leila Lopes –   Miss Universe 2011

Interesting Facts About Miss Universe Beauty Pageant

Miss Universe is a highly popularized beauty pageant held every year around the world participated by the most beautiful women in the world.  It is the most-viewed pageant in the media with 600 million viewers around the world.

Way back 1920’s, Miss Universe pageant was only a part of the International Pageant of Pulchritude. The pageant lasted only until 1935 because of the sad part of history, World War II, which led to the pageant’s demise.

Then later in 1952, the Miss Universe beauty contest was launched by Pacific Mills clothing company of California before it was acquired by the New York organization headed by Donald Trump in 1996.

From the name Miss Universe Inc. it was changed into Miss Universe Organization and the headquarters was transferred from California to New York.  This was made possible by Donald Trump with his team of professionals lead by the new CEO of the organization, Milly Miles and the president, Maureen Reidy.

The first Miss Universe pageant was held in Long Beach California in 1952 and the Finland beauty, in the person of Armi Kuusela, conquered the title as the first Miss Universe. But she gave up her throne shortly as a crowned beauty before finishing her term because she got married.
